INDEX

Notes

In 1922, he was living at 1921 Gravesend Ave., Brooklyn. His occupation was
a steamfitter.

The following information was obtained from Frederick's UF-10 Card (the
NYPD Force Record Card):
Hired as a New York City Police Officer on February 20, 1928. He was
assigned Shield #16916. His former occupation was a steamfitter. He served
in 10 commands, his longest assignment being in 'Traffic L' from
13-Jun-1932 until he was dismissed from the Department on 29-Nov-1935.
He resided at 11 different locations during this time period, as listed on
the back of the 10 Card.
According to the NYPD records unit, all personell records regarding
dismissals, etc., are routinely destroyed after 52 years. No further
Department information regarding the dismissal exists, although according
to his sister Dorothy, he 'collected tolls on a bridge for bootleggers.'
After further research, it seems more probable that he was dismissed for
drinking on duty. The then Police Commissioner, Valentine, was extremely
strict with officers found drinking. In a New York Times article two days
after Frederick's dismissal (01-Dec-1935, Sec. II, page 1), it was reported
that 6 officers were suspended for drinking, two of them dismissed 'two
days ago.' It should be noted that most of the officers who were dismissed
on charges throughout the year were named in the NY Times index (under NYC
Police); some were not, however, Frederick included. There is no mention of
names in the above article, which supports the judgement that he was one of
the two officers referred to.
